Prompt #1
The day that my parents decided to bring me and my siblings across the border into the united states, made me realize that my parents wanted a better future for me and my siblings. While this happened my parents were frightened about the process. So was I. We made it to the United States safely. Throughout the years I and my siblings had the opportunity to get an education. My siblings and I entered the last couple months of the school year. We did not read, or speak English. I was really scared to learn a new language. Through out 3rd grade I had many difficulties in learning and I had to repeat the 3rd grade again. It was a good choice for me however, because my teacher wanted me to have a stronger understanding of the new language. Being an immigrant made me accept how many opportunities were not possible for me. Before this opportunity, I had to overcome my terror, of being into a new country, new language, new culture, and new food.
As years passed I had become better at the English language. I had graduated elementary school and had taken the next step to middle school. The biggest fear I had, was being into a school. Of course I had friends to get through it, but that was not enough for me. I had to talk myself and convince myself that new things are a blessing in my life. As I grow up, I had become a role model for my younger siblings. My siblings had become better at school and around the house. This made me realize that I had to become a role model to them. My experience during high school has become stressful as well memorable. During my freshmen year I had the same feeling as I did in middle school. But this time I overcome my nervousness.
My parents had to work day and night, to get us what we needed in school and around the house. My mother had to work at KFC as a cook, while being pregnant with my youngest sister. On the other hand my father had to become an expert in construction. He had many house owners that wanted to employee him. He had a great opportunity, but we, his family had no time to see him. Not even on the weekends. He was working to many hours. Today both of my parents have been with me and my siblings thought out thick and thin. I have supported them with any decision they have made, including mostly when we have our financially problems.
I have motivated myself to become a person who would like to help others as my parents have helped me. I would like to see families who had to give everything they had to just change everything for their family to become successful in life. Especially their children who have the opportunity to have an education and not worry about financial problems. In my future career I would like to help those who are in need of anything I can support them in. I am really a person who is caring about those who are around me.
Upon my presence in San Diego, I became involved with the YMCA Mission Valley, I had the opportunity to be in after school program since my 3rd grade up until now attending Youth and Government. Being in this program has helped me and my family in finances. Supporting me to continue with my education. My counselors at the YMCA had pushed me to achieve what was not expected of me. For example, I had improved on my public speaking. Being in Youth and Government had changed how I see the government in the U.S. Another thing is that I see myself more involved in politics or government in my future.
Being an immigrant, role model, fearful person, educative, and a supportive person has made me the person I am now. Without this situation in my life would have made a different person by now I would be in the streets doing what only god knows. Whitney Henderson assisted me in realizing that life is taken one step at a time. And that will help me become a better person for my community, friends and my family.

Prompt #2
As I grow up I learned that listening to others made me a better person. “One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say” Bryant H. McGill. In many situations I have been, would be listening to that others around me who has problems or anything they get to say. Even their opinions are an issue.
Listening to others make me feel that I was a part of their lives. As I listened to others I can analyze how they have overcome their fear to talk to someone else besides one of their family member or that person who they do not have the enough confidence to talk to.
An experience I had been through middle school involved one of my friends. She really did not want to tell anyone she was pregnant. I listened to hear everything she had to say. I even gave her my opinion on what she would need to do, she was really frightened about it. As time passed, I would ask my counselors to give me advice on how to talk about this situation to my friend. Having someone to rely on in this kind of situation made me think that I was a good friend by helping her. Eventually her family found out, two months had passed. On a school day she did not attend, I was worried about her. During lunch I had to call her what was the reason of her absence from school. As I called her, she sounded terrible, frightened, she tolled me that she had a miscarriage. She was sobbing as she told me, I wasn’t expecting this to happen. After school I decided to go to her house to support her and listen to her. It was really heart breaking to see my friend like that. As time passed I help her to overcome that situation and be there for her. Listening to those who are in need to be heard had made me the person I am today. I became a strong woman.
